Do I need to take out temporary car insurance before my holiday?

If you go on holiday abroad with your car, it is important to check how well you are insured during your holiday. Fortunately, you can find this out very easily. Your green card, which you receive after taking out a car insurance policy, states in which holiday countries your green card is valid. Are you taking your car to a country where your car insurance is not valid? Then you can get temporary car insurance. Temporary car insurance can often be arranged at the border of the country concerned.

At the moment we do not have any options for temporary holiday car insurance.

Car usually insured abroad

Are you taking your car on holiday abroad? Then your car insurance will provide coverage in most EU countries. In which countries you have coverage is mentioned on your green card. Before you leave, always check what you are and are not insured for abroad and what requirements apply in the countries you are driving through. In most countries you do not need to carry your green card, but in some countries it is compulsory. On your green card you will also find telephone numbers to call in case of damage or an accident.

When to buy temporary car insurance for holidays?

In the countries which are not on your green card or which are on it but have been crossed out, you do not have third-party cover. In that case you can often get temporary car insurance at the border of the country concerned. The cost of temporary car insurance at the border may vary from country to country. Before you go abroad it is wise to check which countries you will be driving through. Not only for the car insurance but also because every country has different requirements concerning the car. For example, in a number of countries you must carry a warning triangle and a safety vest. If you do not have one, you risk a fine.
