What happens after buying scooter insurance online?

After comparing premiums online, you can apply for insurance for your scooter right away. You provide the important details of your scooter such as registration number and report code, desired coverage and list value. Then you fill in your contact information and answer some underwriting questions. After this, you may or may not get provisional coverage.

Provisional coverage means that you have provisional coverage until the insurance company definitively accepts you. Should you be granted provisional coverage, the scooter is insured from the chosen effective date.

It is possible that the company will not or cannot accept you. This may be because, for example, you have been involved in a claim in the past or have not paid a premium on time. In all cases, we will keep you informed by e-mail.

What is cheap scooter insurance?

What is the cheapest scooter insurance? This is normally the scooter insurance with only third-party coverage. With third-party coverage, damage to the scooter is not insured but only the damage you cause to others. In addition to the coverage, there are several factors that determine the amount of the premium.

  • Catalogue value of the scooter
  • Age of regular driver
  • Town/City
  • Number of accumulated claim-free years
What cover does the scooter insurance offer?

In addition to the compulsory third-party scooter insurance, you have a choice between two more comprehensive coverages. Which one is best to choose depends on the age of the scooter, its value and your financial position. The three coverages are:

Third-party liability (WA)

This is the basic coverage and the cheapest scooter insurance. The damage you cause with your scooter to third parties is covered, but not the damage to your own scooter. Theft and fire damage are not covered with this coverage.

WA + Theft and Fire

In addition to the WA coverage, theft and/or fire damage is now covered. Damage to your own scooter that you caused yourself (e.g. due to a collision) is not covered.

WA + Theft, fire and collision

In addition to WA coverage and compensation for theft and/or fire damage, damage to your own scooter (due to a collision, for example) is now also covered.

The name of the coverage shows which parts are covered. This is the most comprehensive scooter insurance, and can be compared to the third-party comprehensive insurance (Allrisk), as known from car insurance.

Recovery service

If you purchase insurance at Alpina.nl you get additional coverage for free

Recovery Legal Aid
va. 2 ,24 p/month

Insured of legal help in recovering damages from a traffic accident. At home and abroad.

In some situations, you have to make your claim to the person who caused the damage. Normally this is not necessary with the most comprehensive All-risk insurance. This is because the insurer itself already pays out the damage to your scooter.

Is your scooter WA or WA + Theft and Fire insured, then recovering your damage from the other party is not insured. For this you can take out legal assistance insurance. After damage the insurer will take care of recovering your damage.

Motor Vehicle Legal Assistance
from 1 ,02 p/month

Insured of legal help in traffic disputes. At home and abroad. With the vehicle insured on the policy.

Legal expenses insurance also takes care of recovering damages from the perpetrator, but the coverage is broader than recovery legal expenses insurance. You can also use the insurance in a dispute with a scooter dealer, for example, or a disagreement with the garage over repair costs.

You can even use this insurance for legal help for criminal prosecution due to an accident. However, there may be specific requirements for using the motor vehicle legal expenses insurance.

Frequently asked questions about scooter insurance

How much does scooter insurance cost for a 16 year old?

The premium for a 16-year-old is generally higher than the premium for someone 40 years old. This is mainly because someone 16 years old still has little driving experience, and claims figures also show that drivers under 24 are more likely to be involved in a claim.

Therefore, we always recommend comparing premiums first to determine which company has the lowest premium for a 16-year-old.

What does WA scooter insurance cover?

WA coverage basically only pays out for damage you cause to others. Damage to your scooter will not be compensated. When damage is caused by a third party, you can recover the damages from the insurer of the liable third party.

Can scooter insurance be taken out in my parents' name?

In principle, the holder of the vehicle registration certificate must take out a suitable insurance himself. The holder of the scooter's registration number is obliged to take out insurance: at least a third-party insurance must be taken out.

If parents have the scooter in their name, they can purchase scooter insurance for it. If a son or daughter is going to ride the scooter, they must be registered as the driver. This is to avoid problems in case of damage.

Can I insure a scooter without a driving licence?

It is often wrongly thought that you cannot insure a scooter without a driver's license. There are insurers who are difficult about this, but there are plenty of options for insurance. But you need to know where to go. With us, you can insure a scooter without a driver's license.

What is the difference between a moped and a moped?

A moped has an engine with a displacement of 50cc or more, while a moped has an engine with a displacement of no more than 50cc. A moped has more power than a moped, making it faster. Mopeds also have a larger tank and tend to be heavier than mopeds. This therefore means that the premium for a moped or scooter is often higher than the insurance for a moped.

What lock do I need for scooter?

It is important to have a good lock for your scooter. There are different types of locks you can use, such as a chain or cable lock, a drawbar lock, or an alarm lock. It is important to choose a lock that is suitable for your scooter and that meets safety standards. Insurance companies accept locks that are ART approved.

Always lock your scooter with an ART-approved lock

It is wise to lock your two-wheeler both inside and outside the garage or shed. This way you can prevent your scooter from being stolen.

All insurers in the Netherlands require that you lock your insured scooter and that you can produce both original keys if your scooter does get stolen unexpectedly. This is to show that you took all precautions to prevent your scooter from being stolen. Check the ART Foundation website to see if your lock is ART approved.

Is a scooter insured if it is souped up

No, if your scooter is souped up, it is no longer insured. If your scooter has been souped up, you need to update your insurance to the new specifications. If you don't do this, your scooter is no longer insured.
