Going to the beach: are your valuables insured?
The summer has started again and it is noticeable! The weather has been lovely for days. With this beautiful weather, the Dutch beaches are soon crowded. A day at the beach

However, the police advise you to leave your valuables at home as much as possible. If you do have to take valuables with you to the beach, keep a close eye on them or make sure someone always stays near them.
The insurance
But are you actually insured for theft on the beach? If you only go to the beach for a day, the valuables you take with you to the beach are not covered under your travel insurance. If you go away for a longer period, on a beach holiday, you can claim the damage on your travel insurance. However, every insurer advises you to handle your belongings with normal care. This means that you look after your belongings and do not make it too easy for thieves. If it turns out that you are careless with your valuables, insurers may decide not to reimburse you for the damage caused by the theft of your valuables.
By car to the beach
When you go to the beach by car, the Dutch Association of Insurers advises you to look for a safe and busy place to park your car. Also, do not leave valuables, such as your mobile phone or wallet, unattended in your car. These are best left at home or in the safe of your hotel or flat.
