Home Car Insurance Coverage limited casco or all risk

Car insurance limited casco or all risk: what is the difference?

When comparing car insurance, it is important to know what coverage you are choosing. At a minimum, you must have third-party coverage. This insures you for damage you cause to others. If you want more extensive coverage you can choose a limited casco or an all risk car insurance. With a limited casco you are for example insured for hail or fire damage. The most extensive car insurance you can choose is the all-risk coverage. Obviously this is also the most expensive.

Car insurance limited casco or all risk

Your choice of car insurance with all risk or limited collision coverage depends on several factors. For example, all risk is the most expensive car insurance. This coverage is the most extensive. As a result, the premium is also higher, because the insurer runs the most risks here. Price will therefore be an important consideration in choosing coverage. In addition, the age of the car is important. In general, you will not insure a somewhat older car at all risk, because it is simply no longer worth it.

When do you choose third-party coverage?

The WA coverage is the cheapest, but also the most minimal coverage. In the Netherlands, as a car owner you are obliged to take out at least a WA coverage for your car. With a third-party insurance you are only insured for damage to third parties. Damage to your own car can not be claimed with the car insurance. Due to the limited coverage, this car insurance is more suitable for older cars that have a lower daily value.

When do you opt for third-party limited liability coverage?

If you find the third-party coverage too minimal, you can opt for third-party limited collision coverage. This coverage is a middle ground between the third-party coverage and the all-risk car insurance. The premium is slightly higher than the third-party coverage, but then you are more broadly insured. The limited hull part compensates damage from a number of causes of damage listed in the policy conditions. The exact coverage may vary from one insurer to another, but in general it comes down to compensation for the following causes:

When to choose all-risk cover (WA-casco)?

All-risk coverage is the most comprehensive car insurance. You also get paid for damage to your own car when you cause an accident. The premium for all risk insurance is therefore higher than for limited hull coverage. For new cars up to about 6 years old, this coverage is standard. Nevertheless, even for cars older than 6 years, it may be advisable to take out all risk car insurance instead of limited hull coverage. These days, cars easily last 15 years. Therefore, an 8-year-old car can still have a high daily value. Whether you choose limited hull or all risk coverage will therefore depend on the value of the car. Moreover, it is of course up to you what you want to pay in monthly premiums. By comparing car insurance policies, you can come to a good choice.
