What is the catalogue value of my car?

When you take out a car insurance or business car insurance, you will always be asked for the catalogue value of the car with WA-extra or All Risk cover. What is the catalogue value and why is it important?

The catalogue value is the price you pay for the new car, including VAT, BPM and accessories. When license plate number 1 is issued, your car has the catalogue value at that moment. Insurers use the catalogue value to determine the amount of the premium, among other things. The addition that you pay on the company car or lease car is also calculated by the tax authorities based on the catalogue value. The addition depends on the car, but will be between 4 and 25 percent of the catalogue value. The more economical the car is, the lower the addition.

Where can I find the catalogue value of my car?

At www.alpina.nl , when making a premium calculation for car insurance, the catalog value as known to the RDW is used. When a vehicle is sold, the dealer will provide the RDW with all data including the catalog value of your car. Should a vehicle be imported, they will try to determine the catalog value when inspecting the vehicle.

Insuring your car at new value

When you are involved in a serious accident and your new car cannot be repaired, you prefer to be paid the new value instead of the current market value. You feel that the car is still new, yet the current value will be a lot lower than you would expect. For new cars, many car insurance companies have a new value scheme. This scheme makes it possible to buy a new car when you total your car. For second-hand cars, this scheme does not apply. When buying a used car, you can choose for the purchase value arrangement. This means that you do not receive the new value, but rather the purchase value of the car, should you drive it into a total loss within the maximum period of validity.

Comparing car insurance using the catalogue value

Through www.alpina.nl you can easily compare different car insurance companies. In general, an insurer determines the insurance premium partly on the basis of the catalog value. This has to do with the fact that an insurer loses more in case of damage to an expensive car than to a cheaper car. It does not always mean that a more expensive list value will cause you to pay more premium. How much premium you have to pay per month can vary a lot from one insurer to another. Therefore, compare all car insurance policies online and choose the one that suits you and your car best. Do you have a question? Take a look at our frequently asked questions.
