Why should I insure my boat?

Although insuring a boat is not compulsory in the Netherlands, it is sensible. You can take out at least a WA boat insurance. With a boat insurance you know for sure that you do not have to pay all the high costs yourself in case of damage. Would you like to insure your own boat as well? Then the all-risk boat insurance could be something for you. The repair costs of damage to a boat can be quite high, not to mention personal injury. By insuring your boat properly, you can always go out on the water with peace of mind and never have any unpleasant surprises.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should you insure a dinghy?

When should you insure a boat in Amsterdam?

Do you love to sail your boat through the beautiful canals of Amsterdam? Then it is often not possible to take out an all-risk boat insurance. Most insurers find the risk of damage to the boat too big and therefore do not provide an all-risk boat insurance. If they do, the premium is often much higher. Fortunately, it is usually possible to take out third-party insurance.

When should you insure a sailboat?

It is not obligatory to insure your sailboat, except in a number of situations. This is for example when you participate in a sailing competition with your sailboat. Moreover, sailboats are often expensive boats. Therefore a boat insurance offers you extra security.

When should you insure your boat abroad?

In some countries, however, it is compulsory to insure your boat. This is particularly the case in the countries around the Mediterranean Sea. These countries include Greece, Croatia, Spain and Italy. You can prove your coverage in these countries with an international certificate of insurance. You can request this certificate from your insurer or broker before you go on holiday. This certificate can differ per country.
