Of course, such a fine boat has to be properly insured, so that you can get on the water as soon as the sun starts shining. That is why you should always take out boat insurance for your sloop. That way you know for sure that you are insured in case of damage.

Sloop insurance against theft

When taking out sloop insurance, you can choose from three different types of coverage: Third Party, Limited Comprehensive or All-Risk. When you take out a WA-boat insurance it means that you will only be compensated for liability damage. If you cause damage to another person with your boat, this will be compensated by the insurer. Damage to or theft of your own boat is not covered by WA boat insurance. If you want to include theft of your boat in the insurance you can take out a WA + Casco boat insurance. This insurance covers theft of the boat and damage caused by fire, spontaneous combustion, explosion, joyriding, storm and hail. If you opt for Full Comprehensive Vehicle insurance, you are also insured for damage to your own boat, even if the damage is your fault.

Is it compulsory to insure a sloop?

No, you are not obliged to insure your sloop. In the Netherlands it is not legally required to have boat insurance. You will therefore decide for yourself whether you think it is necessary to take out boat insurance for your sloop. However, in certain situations you do need WA boat insurance. This is for example during competitions, in a marina, a boat storage or on (part of) the water.

What is the best boat insurance for a sloop?

In order to find the best insurance for your boat, it is important that you compare well. When comparing boat insurances you have to pay attention to two things: the coverage you want and the sailing area where you are going to sail your boat.
