Is jet ski insurance mandatory?

In large parts of Europe, third-party insurance is compulsory for jet skis. In the Netherlands, however, it is not compulsory to insure a jet ski. Nevertheless, it is advisable to take out jet ski insurance. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, the Dutch waters are becoming increasingly crowded. This also increases the chance of an accident. Therefore it is wise to take out at least a third-party insurance for your jet ski. With this you are insured for damage you cause to others.

Do I need to insure a jet ski in Belgium?

In the Netherlands and Belgium, the rules concerning boat insurance are fairly similar. There, too, you are not obliged to insure your jet ski. However, it is recommended.

Do I need to take out jet ski insurance in Spain?

Yes, if you want to sail with your jet ski in Spain, you are obliged to take out at least a third-party insurance. This applies to most countries around the Mediterranean Sea, such as Greece, Croatia and Italy.

Where can I insure a jet ski?

Jetski theft insurance

A jet ski is beautiful, expensive and fast. Something that thieves also notice regularly. That is why it is wise to insure your boat well against theft. When you take out jet ski insurance, you can choose from three different types of cover: WA, WA + Limited Casco or All Risks. WA boat insurance is the basic coverage. This means that you will only be compensated for liability damages. If you cause damage to another person with your jet ski, the insurer will reimburse you. If you want to insure theft of your jetski you can take out a WA + Casco boat insurance. This insurance covers theft of the jetski and damage caused by fire, spontaneous combustion, explosion, joyriding, storm and hail. If you go for Full Comprehensive Vehicle insurance, you are also insured for damage to your own jet ski, even if the damage is your fault.

Be careful, because most of the time an insurer will make demands on the security of your jet ski when taking out a theft cover. Think for instance of a GPS tracking system. Always check the policy conditions of your insurance company to see what requirements the insurer makes.
