HIN number

HIN number

The HIN number (Hull Identification Number), is the "chassis number" of the vessel. Vessels built after June 1998 are fitted with this number as standard. Usually the HIN-number can be found on or around the transom of your vessel.

It may occur that your vessel has not been provided with a unique HIN number, often the reason being that your vessel was manufactured before June 1998. In case your vessel has not been assigned a HIN number please check whether your vessel has a hull or serial number.

HIN number interpretation
NL - Country of production
ZZZ - Unique code of the yard that built the hull
12345 - Serial number
A - Month of production (A January to L December)
5 - Year of production
05 - Model year

Open boat

An open boat is a boat without an enclosure and with a trailer engine up to 20 hp or without an engine. You can think of an open fishing boat, for example.

Rubber boats

Rubber dinghies are defined as all boats which have a rubber base. The attainable speed of the dinghy plays no role in the calculation of the premium.

Motorboats

Below you will find an overview of the different powerboats for which VerzekerVoordelig.nl offers a boat insurance.

Catamaran open / closed

A catamaran is a vessel consisting of two floating parts that are parallel to each other above the waterline via a light middle section. Catamarans are stable vessels with a relatively low resistance, enabling them to achieve great speeds. Open catamarans do not have an enclosure, but closed catamarans do.

Kayak Speedboat

A cabin speed boat is a motorboat with a cabin and a petrol engine of more than 50 hp. In addition, the boat must have permanent berths and a cooking facility in order to be called a cabin speedboat.

Motorkruiser

The motor cruiser refers to all cabin motorboats that have an inboard engine without stern drive. If cabin motorboats do have a stern drive or an inboard petrol engine of more than 50 hp, the insurer will calculate the cabin cruiser rate.

Multihulls

A multihull is a more luxurious version of the catamaran. The multihull consists of several hulls. These hulls run vertically parallel to each other. Multihulls are often equipped with comfortable sleeping berths.

Open speedboat

An open speedboat includes boats with an outboard motor of more than 25 hp or a stern drive and open boats with a built-in petrol engine of more than 50 hp.

Sloop / Vlet

A sloop is a cross between an inland waterway vessel and a skiff (single-person rowing boat). A vlet is a small vessel made of steel that is very similar to a sloop, but instead of a straight and vertical prow, it has a sloping prow. Sloops and vlets are real recreational boats, they usually do not reach high speeds but are mainly used for relaxing trips.

Speedcruiser

A speed cruiser is a covered boat that allows for a longer stay on the water. Speed cruisers are therefore equipped with sleeping accommodation, a sanitary area and cooking facilities. Speed cruisers reach an average speed of 44 km per hour.

Tour boat open / closed

A touring boat can be open or closed. A tour boat is made for touring longer distances at a steady speed. Most tour boats have a cabin with sleeping accommodation.

Vessels in large cities

If you have a boat in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht or The Hague, there are a number of things to consider when it comes to boat insurance.

Why in the big cities?

In large cities, boat owners have less of an overview of their vessel. Because, for example, the canals in Amsterdam are not directly adjacent to the houses, it is more difficult for a boat owner to keep an eye on his/her boat. Therefore, in big cities you have to deal with a so-called increased risk.

Because of this increased risk, insurers have decided not to offer limited third-party insurance or third-party insurance to boat owners in large cities any more. However, you can take the WA Boat Insurance, which covers the liability of the owner and the driver of the boat for damage caused to third parties.

Exceptions

  • Vessels that are moored in a guarded marina in the city are eligible for WA + limited casco Boat Insurance or WA + casco Boat Insurance.
  • Boat owners who have a mooring directly at home can also choose the Limited Comprehensive and Comprehensive Boat Insurance. However, strict attention is paid to the fact that the berth is directly on the house, for example in front of the door, or to the garden that lies directly on the water. There should be no road between the house and the berth (as is the case with canal houses).

Sailboats and yachts

Below you will find an overview of the different sailboats and (sailing) yachts for which VerzekerVoordelig.nl offers boat insurance. In the descriptions you can easily read what your vessel falls under.

Cabin sailer

A cabin sailboat is a sailboat equipped with a cabin. You can find cabin sailboats in different sizes and with one or more sailing masts.

Sailing yacht

A cabin yacht is a yacht with a sail and a cabin. A yacht is a ship or boat intended for recreation, equipped with a large, luxurious cabin or a pavilion (aft cabin).

Classic sailing yacht

A classic sailing yacht is a luxurious ship equipped with sails. Classic sailing yachts are labelled as classic because they are only powered by wind energy and contain no other propulsion methods.

Motor sailor

Motor sailors are sailing boats equipped with powerful engines. Because of the combination of sail and engine, they can reach great speeds. Therefore, these motor sailors are often used for sailing competitions.

Open sailing boat

Open sailboats are sailboats without an enclosure. In this category you will find open sailboats with sails only and open sailboats with a trailer engine.
